Our Annual Food Drive
The Kids Education Entertainment Program provides food and cooked meals during the holiday season.

We feed over 30 families every Thanksgiving
Food insecurity is a significant issue for low-income families, especially during the holidays. The festive season often brings additional financial stress due to the costs of gifts, decorations, and special meals. Unfortunately, many families struggle to afford even basic necessities during this time.

Our Impact
Why This Matters
Overall Food Insecurity in Georgia:
13.1 percent of people in Georgia were food insecure in 2023. That’s approximately 1 in 8 individuals.
Within the Food Bank’s 29-county service area, the food insecurity rate was slightly lower at 11.3 percent (or 1 in 9 people).
It’s important to recognize that food insecurity affects a diverse range of individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Demographic Breakdown:
Among specific demographic groups:
- Black individuals: 19 percent (or 1 in 5) experienced food insecurity.
- Latino individuals: 18 percent (or 1 in 6) faced food insecurity.
- Children: 18.4 percent (or 1 in 5) of children were food insecure.
- Seniors (age 60 and older): 8 percent (or 1 in 13) dealt with food insecurity.
These numbers highlight the urgency of addressing hunger across different age groups and ethnic backgrounds.
Participation in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program):
78 percent of eligible individuals participated in SNAP, which provides crucial food assistance.
However, there were also 68 percent of food-insecure people who were above 130 percent of the federal poverty line, limiting their eligibility for SNAP.
